National Bank of Arizona helps local fitness company build new location

By Debra Gelbart

DMB Sports Clubs, owned by the development company DMB Associates, is a multi-location enterprise known as Village Health Clubs & Spas. The company specializes in upscale family health clubs in the Phoenix area. Rated among the top 100 health clubs in the nation, locations include the Camelback Village Racquet and Health Club, the Gainey Village Health Club and Spa and the DC Ranch Village Health Club and Spa. A Chandler location is expected to open in January 2015. Carol Nalevanko has been president of the health clubs since the first one opened in 1991. She appreciates doing business with National Bank of Arizona because NB|AZ bankers are strong advocates for the success and growth of her business. How has National Bank of Arizona helped your company? NB|AZ helped us refinance an existing loan and now is helping us with financing our new Village Club in Chandler. They believe in the Village brand and give us great support and advice. What do you value most about your partnership with National Bank of Arizona? The relationship itself. It’s not a formal one with just a bank; it’s with Gary (Miller) and Bill (Kirschner), our bankers. Gary’s a member of the health club, so he definitely knows the product. That’s important to me. What sets NB|AZ apart from other banks? They believe in our product. Our first encounter with NB|AZ was during the recession when banks weren’t lending money. NB|AZ believed in us enough to refinance a significant loan and now they’re giving us a construction loan for a brand new health club. What differentiates NB|AZ is that their bankers are willing to take calculated risks. What would you tell other business owners about doing business with National Bank of Arizona? It’s a relationship built on trust. When you establish a relationship with a financial institution, you’re putting your future in that bank’s hands. You’ll feel confident partnering with NB|AZ.
